Don’t Run Joe expands TV advertising to three more early primary states
The Don’t Run Joe campaign has begun TV advertising in Georgia, Michigan and South Carolina – targeting expected early primary states – with 60-second spots in major cities urging President Biden not to run for re-election. The ads are airing repeatedly this week on CNN and MSNBC in Atlanta, Detroit and Columbia, S.C.
The expansion of the Don’t Run Joe ad push, which began on the statewide ABC affiliate in New Hampshire last month, comes in the wake of recent polls by CNBC and CNN showing that nearly 60 percent of Democrats nationwide do not want Biden to be the party nominee in 2024.
“On behalf of most Democrats as well as our party’s activist base, we are strongly urging President Biden not to seek renomination,” said Pia Gallegos, board chair of RootsAction.org, which is sponsoring the Don’t Run Joe campaign.
“Our ideas are way more popular than Joe Biden is,” one voter says in the ad, which is introduced as “a message from Democratic voters.” Another speaker declares that “Joe Biden representing the status quo in 2024 simply won’t cut it.” A third voter warns in the ad that “we can’t afford to risk the White House for a Republican who could defeat status-quo Joe.”
RootsAction cofounder Jeff Cohen said in a statement Wednesday: “We’re expanding our ad campaign to amplify a message about where a majority of Democrats stand. It’s a crucial message for Joe Biden to hear and heed.”
